Common Questions
What qualifies as large format tile?
Tiles with at least one edge longer than 15 inches are considered large format. These require special care to avoid lippage and cracking.
Why is special thinset needed for large tiles?
Large format tiles need non‑sag, medium bed mortars with higher bond strength to support the weight and size without slump or hollow spots.
Can large format tile be used on walls?
Yes. We install large slabs on shower walls, fireplaces and accent walls using appropriate adhesives and mechanical anchoring when necessary.
How do you minimize grout joints?
We plan layouts carefully and use rectified tiles with square edges, allowing for tight 1/16" joints sealed with epoxy grout.
Is large format tile more expensive to install?
Installation costs are higher due to the specialized tools, labor and materials required. However, the upscale look and reduced maintenance often justify the investment.
Do you reinforce subfloors for large tiles?
We check subfloor deflection and install additional underlayment or joist reinforcement as needed to support the weight of large slabs.
